Last update: January 2021.
My name is Mathieu Desmet, I am a lawyer, I studied law at the Saint-Louis university faculties in Brussels (bachelor) and then at the Catholic University of Louvain-la-Neuve (master). I also took an LL.M in European law at the University of Leiden in the Netherlands.
I have always been passionate about new technologies and their impact on society and individuals.
In 2020, I obtained a certificate to exercise the function of Data Protection Officer from the Data Protection Institute.
I am also a member of the DPO-PRO organization and volunteer at NOYB (organization developed by Max Schrems, the famous activist in the field of personal data protection) as a "national reporter" (I help in the compilation of decisions of the Belgian Data Protection Authority in the GDPRHub tool developed by NOYB).
My areas of expertise are personal data protection law, intellectual property rights, commercial law in the broad sense (in particular issues related to e-commerce) as well as the law of travelers and games of chance.
